Filter’s FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Filter is an indispensable device on the transmission medium pipeline. It is usually installed in the pressure reducing valve, pressure relief valve. Hikelok Filters max working pressure can up to 6000 psig(413 bar),working temperature from 20°F to 900°F(28℃ to 482 ℃) and provide 1/8 in to 1 1/4 inch, 6 mm to 25 mm different port size. The thread provides NPT, BSP, ISO, Tube Fittings, Tube Socket Weld, Tube butt weld, Male GFS Fittings. The body material includes 304,304 L stainless steel 316, 316L stainless steel, brass.

1. Can the filter be installed upside down?

The inlet and outlet of the anti-medium pressure will offset the pressure of the spring, so that the sealing function of the sealing pad is lost, and the medium will flow directly through the filter element. If the installation of clothing after disassembly, will directly cause downstream equipment pollution.

2. What are the reasons for the blockage of the filter element?

1) Too many impurities are attached to the surface of the filter element;

2) Impurities attached to the surface of the filter element react with the filter element;

3) the medium is not compatible with stainless steel.

Therefore, the filter element needs to be regularly checked, cleaned and replaced. In order to solve the choice of installation space and convenient replacement, Hikelok provides two kinds of filters: straight-through type and T type.

1) Straight-through filter can be connected online, taking up little space; T type filter can be installed online or panel installation, panel installation screw hole is located at the bottom of the valve body, can be fixed with screws;

2) When cleaning or replacing the filter element of the straight-through filter, it needs to be removed from the pipeline and blow back with high pressure air from the outlet; T type filter does not need to be removed from the pipeline, just unscrew the lock nut, remove the filter element cleaning or replacement can be.

3. How to choose the filtering precision?

1) Choose according to the diameter of the impurity. Generally speaking, the chromatographic analysis instrument needs the filtration accuracy of less than 10μm. The gas usually uses the filtration accuracy of 5-10μm, and the liquid usually uses the filtration accuracy of 20-40μm.

2) Another factor to determine the filtration accuracy is the flow. When the flow is large, the filtration accuracy should be coarse, and when the flow is not large, the filtration accuracy can be refined.
