Prepare tubing correctly to avoid system leakage

The importance of correct preparation of ferrule!

In almost all refineries, important connections are made of high-quality tubing and high-precision ferrule joints. If you want to keep the connection in the best condition, you must consider the influence of many variables, such as the material, size, wall thickness, material characteristics, application scenarios, and so on of the tube.

How to ensure that the maintenance personnel of the refinery can learn, master, and use the correct methods and tools to ensure the high-quality connection of the entire plant?

Identify common causes of failure

One of the main reasons for fluid system leakage is improper tubing pretreatment. For example, the tube is not cut vertically, resulting in a slanted cut end face. Or, after cutting the tube, the burrs on the end face are not filed. Although it may seem a bit redundant to use a hacksaw to cut the end of the tube and then file it, after studying the data of many system failures, we found that most of the failures are due to negligence in details. Spend more time on the pretreatment and installation of the tubing to ensure correct operation, so as to avoid system failures in the future.

In order to reduce the failure rate of the fluid system, not only need to be equipped with complete tools, but also pay attention to details that are easily overlooked during the installation process. For example, the following two common reasons are easily overlooked:

• Improper access handling, resulting in scratches, nicks or dents on the tube.

If the burrs or scratches on the cutting parts are not dealt with properly, slide the remaining tubing back to the rack, which will scratch the tubing still in the rack; if the tubing is pulled halfway out of the rack , If one end touches the ground, the tubing is prone to dents; if the tubing is dragged directly on the ground, the surface of the tubing may be scratched.

• Improper tubing pretreatment, not cutting the tubing vertically or not removing the burrs at the end.

A hacksaw or cutting tool specially designed for cutting tubing is required.
